Genesis News

He once described himself as a permanent part-time member of Genesis - a role he has truly enjoyed for almost 30 years now. Daryl Stuermer has played bass and guitar on all Genesis Tours between 1978 and 1992. Besides that, he is also the longest serving member in Phil Collins' solo-band. 15 years after the We Can't Dance Tour, Daryl will once again pick up his bass and guitar for the Turn It On Again Genesis-Tour. Also, his new solo album Go will be released 23rd / 24th April. Christian from it / genesis-news.com talked to Daryl and discussed his life and carreer with Genesis and his solo work.

"I met Daryl for the first time in an elevator of a London hotel when I was going to the Townhouse studios to start working on the Phil Collins No Jacket Required album. Daryl is a dear friend as well as a gifted musician. He never stops amazing me with his writing and his way of playing. He makes things so damn easy. I liked working with him on his records and they are all very special to me, he is my main reference point on the road, we lived many many great adventures together and I hope there will be others in years to come. I hope you will like listening to this record as much as I liked playing on it".

World of Genesis

With few exceptions, Daryl Stuermer has largely become synonymous with mellow smooth jazz guitar rather than the sort of rock based jazz fusion guitar work that fans might have expected after seeing him play live at a Genesis gig. Of course, Rewired: The Electric Collection culled together moments that deviated from the smooth jazz genre, but being labeled as a smooth jazz musician would have been a very fair assessment, at least since his sophomore solo album, Live and Learn .  While there have been obvious indicators that Stuermer was slowly moving back toward a more rock-based style of guitar playing (in my opinion, dating back to 2001's Waiting in The Wings ), I can say without hesitation that is this truly the Daryl Stuermer album I have waited for since his 1988 rock influenced solo debut, Steppin' Out . Daryl's relentlessly firey guitar riffs soar through an almost progressively peppered rock 'n roll fusion hybrid from beginning to end. Without any question, as a whole, this is one of Stuermer's best instrumental albums to date and one that Genesis fans will easily embrace. Go, buy it!

Although Daryl Stuermer is primarilly known for his work live with that little known prog band from England , he's also been quite proficiant in his own solo career. Although he's more of a "jazz" guy (and I might be wrong with that), I received a promotional copy of his new album..and it smokes! HERE

Genesis News

Go. A simple title. And very much to the point. Daryl Stuermer, tour guitarist with Genesis and Phil Collins, has been releasing solo records since 1988, amongst them an album called Another Side Of Genesis containing instrumental versions of Genesis songs (read the review here). But while he played almost all over the world with Genesis and Phil Collins, his solo activities remained restricted to Wisconsin in the United States. Daryl lives in Milwaukee and he lives for the music. Genesis will always be his biggest job, though he has also worked with big names such as Jean-Luc Ponty. Now he does it all solo.. HERE

(Thanks Marco)

The band Genesis and guitarist Daryl Stuermer are closely connected: This summer, Stuermer is going on tour with the famous group again, but,
and that's a must for every serious musician, Stuermer also storms forward with his solo projects.

"GO" is his 9th solo CD - quite busy this man. On "GO" he lets his overdriven, electric guitar revel, which results in creamy, sparkling melody lines.
He delivers 10 songs in best fusion manner - from "Breaking Point" to "Omnibus", one instrumental track - full of energetic, powerful music -
follows the next.

Stuermer is exactly the one who can make room again for that kind of music in this century. You can blame him, that this music doesn't really
have much to do with the sounds of the present - right, but he makes the hearts of all fusion fans beat faster and rocks the house friendly -
in consonance with the spring twitter outside the window.
